Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care

Looking for a career in child care?

This certificate course will get you started.

With a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, you will be eligible to work as a child care assistant, playgroup supervisor, family day care worker, child care worker, outside school hours care assistant, recreation assistant, or nanny.

Course summary

Qualification: CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care
Duration: Typically 1 to 2 years
Entry requirements: Applicants must meet the language, literacy and numeracy requirements for the qualification 
Delivery method: Classroom*, external studies, onsite (with support from your personal trainer)

* Classroom mode is for students funded under the Certificate 3 Guarantee Program (dependent upon participant numbers and location)

Course requirements

To complete the Certificate III you will study a total of 18 units, consisting of 15 core units and 3 elective units. As part of the course assessment, you'll need to undertake supervised work placement as a paid employee in the child care industry or a voluntary placement for up to 240 hours. This placement will need to be pre-approved by Kath Dickson Institute. 

You will also be required to hold a positive notice blue card to work or volunteer in Queensland’s child care industry.

Fees and payment

We offer a 'pay as you study' system that allows payment of course fees over the duration of study. Various Queensland Government subsidies and incentives are available for this course, including Certificate 3 Guarantee and User Choice
