User Choice

Thinking of studying Early Childhood Education and Care with us?

You may be eligible for subsidised fees under the User Choice program for apprentices and trainees.

The User Choice program is a Queensland Government initiative that provides a public funding contribution towards the cost of training and assessment for eligible Queensland apprentices and trainees at their choice of preferred registered training organisation (RTO).

Are you eligible?

To be eligible for subsidised training under the User Choice program, you need to have entered into a training contract for a qualification that is funded by the Department of Education and Training (DET) and be registered in DET’s registration system DELTA.

You can only receive one government contribution for a User Choice funded qualification at any single point in time. In addition, you can only receive a maximum of two government funding contributions under the current User Choice Program.

There are other rules specifically related to funding for school-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SATs), so students and their parents/guardians should discuss their intentions with their school’s vocational education and training coordinator prior to signing up as a SAT.

What courses are available?

A User Choice subsidy is available for the following Kath Dickson Institute courses:

CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care

CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care

What will it cost you?

If you are eligible for the User Choice program, your co-contribution fee, payable to the Kath Dickson Institute, is $1.60 per nominal hour for each unit of competency, as nominated by DETE.

Concession and non-concession rates apply to all User Choice students. Full and partial exemptions may apply if you fall within a number of categories.

- New Under 21s Program - The Queensland Government is supporting young Queenslanders up to the age of 21 by providing access to fully subsidised training across priority apprenticeships/traineeships. If you are under 21 at the time of being registered as a trainee or apprentice in early childhood, there will not be a cost for training. Find out more at www.desbt.qld.gov.au/freeapprenticeships
